with Kevin A. - Ph.D. - MIT
I have been working with students in Science and Math for over 15 years. I am passionate about working with students of all ages (middle school through graduate school level programs) – teaching, aiding, mentoring and inspiring students to gain knowledge and confidence in Science and Math. I have a particular passion for mentoring and helping Pre-Medical and Pre-Dental students prepare for the entrance exams necessary to get into medical and dental schools.
I currently tutor Chemistry and Chemistry AP, Organic Chemistry, MCAT, DAT, SAT Math, GRE Math, Physics, Physics AP, Algebra I, Algebra II, Pre-Calculus and Calculus courses to Middle/High School and College/Graduate students.
I look forward to helping you pass your Chemistry/Physics and Math courses and excel on the MCAT and DAT!
My educational background is a B.S. in Professional Chemistry (Chemistry Major, Math and Physics Minors) from Eastern Michigan University, an M.S. from Michigan State University and a Ph.D.in Organic Chemistry from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Prior to becoming a full time Mentor/Tutor, I worked 4 years in the Pharmaceutical Business in New Jersey.
My cancellation policy is 12 hours in advance and at this point in time due to high demand – I operate out of our Montclair – New Jersey Fractal Academy office in person. I always try to be flexible and work around your schedule. I also tutor a significant amount via Skype with interactive white board (try it for free for 15 minutes and see who great it works!). I do travel if my schedule permits.

Reviews for Kevin A. - Ph.D. - MIT
“We reached out to Kevin when our daughter, a freshman high school student in an honors Physics class, started having grades run the gamut!
We took the typical actions: scrupulously purveyed her homework assignments–she was already handling those well as we found out, reached out to the teacher and then guidance, and finally hawked over every grade. None of that worked. The teacher thought she was bright and interested. Yet, the grades, A, C,D, F. What to do? So Kevin came in mid-semester, assayed her overall knowledge and then worked steadily with her making sure she had competence at every point. At one time they were ahead of the class in review. The final exam came in at a B+–that meant to me she really, really knew what she was doing. Overall grade A. Not JUST a good grade but knowledge that will stay with her for some time!”
“Kevin is the definition of a qualified, brilliant, and experienced tutor. He had worked with me throughout my four years of college covering a variety of subjects including Organic Chemistry, Physics, and College Math. He was also my tutor when preparing to take the Dental Admissions Test. Kevin is not only patient but he explains complex concepts in a way that is easy to understand. He is very professional, caring, and successful in helping his students’ achieve their goals and maintaining good grades. Another important aspect is that Kevin is accommodating and works to coordinate schedules. I was lucky to have Kevin as my tutor and HIGHLY recommend him.”
“I worked with both Kevin and Yayoi at Fractal Academy over the summer of 2014. They were both extremely helpful in my prep for the Dental Admissions Test. Yayoi worked with me on Biology and really knew her stuff. She would thoroughly explain topics in Biology that I was confused on, while making notes for me to take home so I could study them. Kevin helped me with the math, general chemistry, organic chemistry, and perceptual ability portion of the DAT. One thing that I really liked about Kevin’s teaching style is that he would always ask me what I wanted to work on. This allowed me to really focus on my weak subjects. Also, before I stepped into Fractal Academy, I had no idea how to even approach the perceptual ability portion of the test. On my real DAT, I conquered the perceptual ability! I would highly recommend Fractal Academy for anyone preparing for the DAT! They are the reason I did so well on the DAT, which helped me to become accepted to my dream school, The University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine.”
“I have worked with Kevin for years and he has been an excellent teacher and role model. He is extremely helpful and accommodating, guaranteed to make every learning experience enjoyable and productive.I also worked with Yayoi who is one of the best and most knowledgeable biology teachers in the area! I highly recommend them to anyone looking for help in the sciences, especially in the higher level ones.”
“I believe that the foremost idea to consider when determining a proper tutoring center is to remember that teaching is an art. It is an engagement and personal relationship between a student and his teacher. Dr. Anderson has become a mentor to me. Not only does he engage and teach at a sophisticated level, but he has also taught me the applications of ideas on everyday life. He has taught me how to think at an elevated level. That is something that I would have never received in my school. Thus, you must make a choice when deciding Fractal Academy over any other tutoring center: Do you want your son/daughter to learn and think at the foremost level or do you want them to just get by with robotic systematic approaches? If it it the former, Fractal is the place for you. If it is the latter, you are doing a disservice to your child.”
