with Kevin A. - Ph.D. - MIT
I have been working with students in Science and Math for over 15 years. I am passionate about working with students of all ages (middle school through graduate school level programs) – teaching, aiding, mentoring and inspiring students to gain knowledge and confidence in Science and Math. I have a particular passion for mentoring and helping Pre-Medical and Pre-Dental students prepare for the entrance exams necessary to get into medical and dental schools.
I currently tutor Chemistry and Chemistry AP, Organic Chemistry, MCAT, DAT, SAT Math, GRE Math, Physics, Physics AP, Algebra I, Algebra II, Pre-Calculus and Calculus courses to Middle/High School and College/Graduate students.
I look forward to helping you pass your Chemistry/Physics and Math courses and excel on the MCAT and DAT!
My educational background is a B.S. in Professional Chemistry (Chemistry Major, Math and Physics Minors) from Eastern Michigan University, an M.S. from Michigan State University and a Ph.D.in Organic Chemistry from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Prior to becoming a full time Mentor/Tutor, I worked 4 years in the Pharmaceutical Business in New Jersey.
My cancellation policy is 12 hours in advance and at this point in time due to high demand – I operate out of our Montclair – New Jersey Fractal Academy office in person. I always try to be flexible and work around your schedule. I also tutor a significant amount via Skype with interactive white board (try it for free for 15 minutes and see who great it works!). I do travel if my schedule permits.

Reviews for Kevin A. - Ph.D. - MIT
“Kevin is the definition of a qualified, brilliant, and experienced tutor. He had worked with me throughout my four years of college covering a variety of subjects including Organic Chemistry, Physics, and College Math. He was also my tutor when preparing to take the Dental Admissions Test. Kevin is not only patient but he explains complex concepts in a way that is easy to understand. He is very professional, caring, and successful in helping his students’ achieve their goals and maintaining good grades. Another important aspect is that Kevin is accommodating and works to coordinate schedules. I was lucky to have Kevin as my tutor and HIGHLY recommend him.”
“I worked with Kevin for the MCAT and he was great! It was a very comfortable and welcoming atmosphere at Fractal. I immediately felt at home. Kevin helped me understand my strengths and weakness with the MCAT, and improve upon my weaknesses. I saw a vast improvement in my physical sciences section over the time that I worked with Kevin. The group MCAT classes were great too. Overall, this was the best tutoring experience that I have ever had, and would highly recommend Fractal to anyone that needs tutoring!”
“I worked with kevin for 2 years, and I can confidently say that without him I would not have passed Chemistry or Physics. He is an excellent tutor that really knows how to simply the more complex material. He abled me to be able to think critically about the work on my own and in no time I was getting the hang of things! The tutoring sessions aren’t subjected to in person visits–he can even Skype in while I’m at college, which is extremely helpful! Kevin is a great tutor and has a real passion for math and science.”
“We reached out to Kevin when our daughter, a freshman high school student in an honors Physics class, started having grades run the gamut!
We took the typical actions: scrupulously purveyed her homework assignments–she was already handling those well as we found out, reached out to the teacher and then guidance, and finally hawked over every grade. None of that worked. The teacher thought she was bright and interested. Yet, the grades, A, C,D, F. What to do? So Kevin came in mid-semester, assayed her overall knowledge and then worked steadily with her making sure she had competence at every point. At one time they were ahead of the class in review. The final exam came in at a B+–that meant to me she really, really knew what she was doing. Overall grade A. Not JUST a good grade but knowledge that will stay with her for some time!”
“After taking the MCAT once and not doing as well as I’d like, I went out to find a tutor who’d be able to help me. I found Kevin and chose him because of great reviews. I’ve worked with Kevin for about 6 months, in that time what Kevin has done for me is just outstanding. I went up 7 points in my retake on the MCAT, a substantial amount. Let’s begin with his values- he’s very flexible in his schedule, helps you understand a lot of information in a very easy to understand manner, and is truly a great educator. I have met but a handful of truly excellent educators in my continuing education, and I can say that Kevin is truly a great instructor. What makes him stand out from any other tutor are his teaching methods- he works out a problem out loud and shows you how he would approach a problem. Even if he doesn’t know the answer right away, he will work it out with you, step by step, until both Kevin and I are satisfied with the results. Kevin helped me specifically cover Chemistry, Organic Chem, Physics, and even some Biochemistry. Lastly, Kevin has a PhD from MIT, and you would never know unless you asked because he is one of the most humble and down to earth PhDs I have ever met (even after 4 years at Rutgers). I would highly recommend him for any subject he is willing to tutor because you will walk away highly impressed”
