with Kevin A. - Ph.D. - MIT
I have been working with students in Science and Math for over 15 years. I am passionate about working with students of all ages (middle school through graduate school level programs) – teaching, aiding, mentoring and inspiring students to gain knowledge and confidence in Science and Math. I have a particular passion for mentoring and helping Pre-Medical and Pre-Dental students prepare for the entrance exams necessary to get into medical and dental schools.
I currently tutor Chemistry and Chemistry AP, Organic Chemistry, MCAT, DAT, SAT Math, GRE Math, Physics, Physics AP, Algebra I, Algebra II, Pre-Calculus and Calculus courses to Middle/High School and College/Graduate students.
I look forward to helping you pass your Chemistry/Physics and Math courses and excel on the MCAT and DAT!
My educational background is a B.S. in Professional Chemistry (Chemistry Major, Math and Physics Minors) from Eastern Michigan University, an M.S. from Michigan State University and a Ph.D.in Organic Chemistry from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Prior to becoming a full time Mentor/Tutor, I worked 4 years in the Pharmaceutical Business in New Jersey.
My cancellation policy is 12 hours in advance and at this point in time due to high demand – I operate out of our Montclair – New Jersey Fractal Academy office in person. I always try to be flexible and work around your schedule. I also tutor a significant amount via Skype with interactive white board (try it for free for 15 minutes and see who great it works!). I do travel if my schedule permits.

Reviews for Kevin A. - Ph.D. - MIT
“I worked with Kevin a few years ago as I was going through my pre-req course load with the intention of going to chiropractic school. Going through the basic sciences at the time, especially organic chemisty was a very hard and stressful process. I’m not sure I would have gotten through with the grades that I needed without Kevin. Now 2.5 into practice, I can honestly say that if not for Kevin, I may not be where I am today.”
“I worked with Kevin and Yayoi at Fractal Academy the summer before taking the DAT. I was in a tight spot since I was taking still taking organic chemistry while starting my DAT prep. I am very self motivated but Yayoi and Kevin honestly helped me with any detail related to the DAT or the classes I was taking. They encouraged me and helped build my confidence with science and math significantly. I couldn’t even try to stump them with any of my questions. Tests in general make me a little anxious and knowing that I could throw any question at them anytime eased much of my anxiety. After I completed the DAT, (and completely exceeding my expectations) I thought my tutoring days were behind me…. But, I started biochemistry the next semester was so relieved to know that if I needed Kevin or Yayoi they would let me ask them any and all questions I had about the subject. Ps. I live in California and was skeptical about the time difference and Internet sessions at first but it was flawless. The Skype sessions with the use of an online whiteboard was even better than meeting in person for me (I did all my tutoring in my pajamas!) Pss. I got into my #1 choice school and I think that Kevin gave me the confidence I needed to even apply there.. I can’t thank Fractal enough!!!”
“After taking the MCAT once and not doing as well as I’d like, I went out to find a tutor who’d be able to help me. I found Kevin and chose him because of great reviews. I’ve worked with Kevin for about 6 months, in that time what Kevin has done for me is just outstanding. I went up 7 points in my retake on the MCAT, a substantial amount. Let’s begin with his values- he’s very flexible in his schedule, helps you understand a lot of information in a very easy to understand manner, and is truly a great educator. I have met but a handful of truly excellent educators in my continuing education, and I can say that Kevin is truly a great instructor. What makes him stand out from any other tutor are his teaching methods- he works out a problem out loud and shows you how he would approach a problem. Even if he doesn’t know the answer right away, he will work it out with you, step by step, until both Kevin and I are satisfied with the results. Kevin helped me specifically cover Chemistry, Organic Chem, Physics, and even some Biochemistry. Lastly, Kevin has a PhD from MIT, and you would never know unless you asked because he is one of the most humble and down to earth PhDs I have ever met (even after 4 years at Rutgers). I would highly recommend him for any subject he is willing to tutor because you will walk away highly impressed”
“I worked closely with Kevin and Yayoi for seven weeks to prepare for the DAT during the summer of 2014. Both Kevin and Yayoi are not only brilliant in the sciences, but understand the fundamentals of educating and communicating with their students in a matter that makes learning easy and enjoyable. Kevin explained shortcuts to conquer problems in general and organic chemistry that are needed for high performance on the DAT. Yayoi answered all my biology questions without hesitation and her colorful, textbook like, drawings turn difficult biology concepts only explained in literature into easy to understand visuals. I traveled over an hour and a half to attend sessions at Fractal Academy and I am so grateful to have discovered them. If you have questions please ask Kevin for my contact information.”
“We reached out to Kevin when our daughter, a freshman high school student in an honors Physics class, started having grades run the gamut!
We took the typical actions: scrupulously purveyed her homework assignments–she was already handling those well as we found out, reached out to the teacher and then guidance, and finally hawked over every grade. None of that worked. The teacher thought she was bright and interested. Yet, the grades, A, C,D, F. What to do? So Kevin came in mid-semester, assayed her overall knowledge and then worked steadily with her making sure she had competence at every point. At one time they were ahead of the class in review. The final exam came in at a B+–that meant to me she really, really knew what she was doing. Overall grade A. Not JUST a good grade but knowledge that will stay with her for some time!”
